Les Misérables

I have just finished reading (the English translation of) Les Misérables. When I say "reading" I have to admit that I left out vast tracts. Like the introduction to the bishop and the in-depth description of the Paris sewer system and similar backdrops which occupy many chapters. Fortunately it is fairly easy to gloss through such without missing the core plot.

I was very impressed, touched by the portrayal of the character of Jean Valjean, especially the ending. Such nuances are lost in the films and the musical. I find myself quite unable to express what I want to say: I stand in amazement at those who can express themselves so well in words and convey in anonymous generality personal issues that must not be spoken about.
